Higher Thinking

Recently, after one of Ada's speech therapy sessions, the therapist came out to give an update on how Ada is doing. Her behavior has been less than desirable lately, and so that seems to overshadow the progress she is making. She told me that Ada is having a harder time with "higher thinking concepts." Most days we can hear stuff like this and know that is our reality and even if it hits us hard we need to wrestle with how this fits into our lives but on this day I was offended. Something bothered me about her thinking Ada wasn't capable of higher levels of thinking.

I pondered this for a week and then it hit me that Ada has the highest form of thinking. Ada loves others with her whole heart.Ada knows how to love. I believe LOVE is the highest way of thinking and something we are all learning how to do.

One of the questions we often ask our kids is what is the purpose of life. June will yell "LOVE!" And Catina will say "Love God and love other people." Ada knows the purpose of life. She gets its. That sounds like higher thinking to me.

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”     Matthew 25:36-40
